Understanding IP Ratings

The Qingdao Britop product portfolio, manufactured by Sichuan Yachen Electric, includes electrical enclosures rated from IP54 for indoor industrial environments to IP66 and IP68 for the most demanding outdoor and underground installations. Understanding these ratings is essential for specifying the correct equipment for each application.

IP66: Protection Against Powerful Water Jets

An IP66 rating indicates the enclosure is dust-tight (first digit 6) and protected against powerful water jets from any direction (second digit 6). The water jet test involves spraying the enclosure with a 12.5mm nozzle delivering 100 liters per minute at 100kPa pressure from a distance of 2.5-3 meters for a minimum of 3 minutes. This test simulates heavy rain, hose-down cleaning, and temporary flooding typical of outdoor electrical installations.

The SCYC-HLJC2304 monitoring system sensors and junction boxes carry IP66 ratings, enabling installation in exposed outdoor locations without additional weather protection. The sealed enclosure design uses continuous gaskets, cable glands with compression seals, and stainless steel hardware to maintain integrity over decades of thermal cycling and UV exposure.

IP68: Continuous Immersion Protection

IP68 represents the highest standard water protection rating, indicating the enclosure can withstand continuous immersion in water under conditions specified by the manufacturer — typically at depths from 1 to 3 meters for extended periods. This rating is essential for monitoring equipment installed in cable trenches, manholes, and underground vaults where standing water is common.
